Two things to ease the pain before a workout

I am, and always have been a very active person. I grew up dancing and I’ve always been an active member at the gym.
However, when I was 15 years old I started to get a lot of pain in my body, especially my low back. So at the age of 20-21 I had to stop dancing, and then I did everything in my power to strengthen my back by working out. Which was hard.
Add Lichen Sclerosus on top of that and I can honestly say that being physically active got harder and harder by the day.

I was still doing physical activities, because I know that working out makes me
1) a happier person
2) reduces my stress levels

Mentally, working out is such a great tool.
When I was 25 I found yoga, and along with going to the gym, this worked okay for my body. But the pain was, of course, still there.

This blog post is addressed to you who’s suffering from Lichen Sclerosus, but feel free to take this to heart if you suffer from Vulvodynia, Lichen Planus, or any other condition that hinders you wearing pants, going to a spin class, or simply just walking, because your condition just gets in the effin way.

As you’ve probably seen if you’ve been following along for awhile, is that I am all over the place – mentally, physically, and emotionally, and I am not ashamed of it. There is no shame in living with these conditions, we just have to find a way to work with the condition instead of against it.

Some days I am more active, some days I lie in bed don’t want to get out of bed.
But when a good day comes along I try to raise my vibration even an inch higher, so it makes it easier to get through the day, and maybe even help me the next day.

Many of you reach out telling me you can’t workout because the pain is hindering you, and I completely understand this. That’s why I wanted to share these tips with you which will hopefully minimize the pain, and help you become a little bit more active. For your mental health, but also for your body.

  1. Seamless tights, or a soft seam.
    First one, life saviour. Second one, awesome.
    Many tights I can’t wear because of the seam in the crotch being too hard and that just makes me tear, so I always work on finding pants that are comfortable. And often I don’t wear any underwear, just to let her breathe a little bit more!
  2. Lidocaine gel 2%.
    This is a numbing gel, and I’ve used it for years. I use it before doing any kind of sexual activity, and before working out. I put it on a few minutes before, and walk around naked so it sinks into the skin. It works amazing!

BONUS – Do it all naked.
I’m not kidding. If you know me personally you know that this is just me being my most authentic self. Many of us feel uncomfortable being naked because we don’t like our bodies, and for many of us – we don’t like our vulva. It’s kinda like, if you hide it it’s not there. Am I right?
I’m not saying be naked all the time. But at home, when you’re doing your stretches, practicing yoga, or doing a workout – do it naked. Pull down the blinds and just move your body.
