It is unclear how many people suffer from Lichen Sclerosus, but the more we connect, the more we know that we are definitely not alone. One study released on July 8th. 2019, even stated that the female to male ratio is now 6:1, which previously has been known to be 4:1.
Even thought there is close to no research regarding LS and nutrition, there have been several studies recently looking into Lichen Sclerosus – how it works, why it happens, and what are the treatment options.
Right now our beloved steroid cream is leading the way in ways to treat LS, but what does it do in the long run? Steroid creams are strong and they are recommended not to be used for a long period of time, however, right now the doctors keep telling us that this is the only option. So we lather it on, hoping that it will make it better, when in fact the cream is so strong that we don’t know if it helps us or just break the skin down. Several of you are contacting me saying that the cream makes you itchy, and that it is painful, and the skin almost feel “raw”.
Also, if you on top of LS is suffer from HPV your skin is already exposed to a virus, and using steroid cream in the long run might make your HPV “angry” resulting in skin alterations that may in the future give you a greater risk of vulvar cancer.
I am not telling you this to scare you, I am telling you this so that you can take power over your own body, and also contribute to a society where there aren’t a lot of options for us.
These studies I was mentioning are very small though, which makes me believe that this is our way in (!)
The change is gonna happen sooner if you contribute with everything that you got. If you hear of studies in your country, anyway that you can contribute in shedding some light on this “blessing” that we have – do so.
I don’t know how many times my doctors have taken pictures on my vulva just for future reference, for myself, and for others. No one will know that that lady part is my lady part.
Both in Europe and in the States Lichen Sclerosus trials are happening, And I got to hand it to the Britts, they do a lot of research on gynecology cases and LS is one of them. Thank you!
Here you can find out about any Lichen Sclerosus trials going on around the world. Maybe you live at one of these places and you want to contribute. We love you! Or maybe just want to stay up-to-date about what’s coming in the near future.
